One of our favorite parts of being a Twin Cities custom home remodeling company is that we have the ability to completely transform a tired space into a point of pride within the home. A recent example of this was a Shoreview, MN kitchen remodeling project completed by our team in a 1980’s era home.  Before work commenced, the kitchen had false soffits.  This created an energy inefficient scenario, because of the cold spots created by this configuration.  During the renovation, we updated the room so that the cabinets could extend to the ceiling.  The kitchen was brightened up with the addition of a beige and white backsplash in a basket weave pattern.  In place of the small sliding window, we installed an awning window.  The advantage the new awning window had over the previous one was that it didn’t have a center bar which allows for ventilation into the room, even on rainy days.  The amount of natural light the awning window allowed in was a dramatic increase.  To keep the room’s countertops free of clutter, a microwave drawer was added.

Clients that entrust remodeling projects to us look for guidance on which materials are both eye-catching and long-lasting.  When it comes to flooring, we find bamboo to be a beautiful and reliable option.  Bamboo floors hold up especially in households with pets because it is resistant to staining and scratching.  Bamboo is also resilient to interior temperature and humidity fluctuations.

One of the most popular questions homeowners ask us when planning their custom home remodeling project is whether they should interview an architect or a contractor first.  The clients we’ve had the most success with reach out to our Design/Build Department first.  From there, we can determine if an architect is needed for the project and assist clients with the planning process.
