In the year 2000, newly constructed homes were required to have basement walls that were damp proofed unless the structure was built on group three soil. Homes built on group three soil were required to have basement walls that were waterproofed. As of 2015, the Minnesota building code has been updated to stipulate that all foundations have to be waterproofed without exception. Technicalities such as these are why it’s so imperative to partner with a contractor that treats their continuing education classes seriously. Failure to properly adhere to building code standards will result in projects failing inspection and needing to be redone. The MN Department of Labor has approved the next set of building code updates to be implemented in 2020.
