4 THINGS TO DO AFTER A STORM

  1. Stay Safe: Don’t take for granted power lines are dead. If a tree fell on your house, stay away from it and call the power company.
  2. Call Your Insurance Company: Report all damage to your insurance company as soon as possible to settle your claim quickly & accurately.
  3. Prevent Further Damage: Protect your home from further damage & theft with temporary repairs. Place plywood, tarps & other materials over openings in roofs, walls & windows & keep receipts so you can submit them to your insurance company later.
  4. Be Prepared: Compile as much information you can about the damage – structural & your possessions. Take pictures & make a list of everything you want to show the adjuster.

SIGNS YOU’RE DEALING WITH A STORM CHASING CONTRACTOR

  • The company appears right after a storm and goes door to door.
  • They are willing to commit insurance fraud by offering to pay your deductible.
  • Contracts do not contain pricing and you are pressured to sign prior to meeting with an insurance adjuster.
  • They cannot provide evidence of a insurance or a contractor license number.
  • You are responsible for pulling your own permit.
  • Representatives arrived in an unmarked vehicle or the company decals are magnets.
  • No local client references are available.
  • The price seems too good to be true.
  • Their address is a PO box.
  • Their license plates and driver’s licenses are from several states away.
